THE BEST WAYS TO CARE FOR YOUR EYELASHES
So you've just gotten your lashes done and you're probably wondering how to make the most of them and make them last. Here is a breakdown of the top best ways for you to care for your eyelash extensions. These steps will not only help your extensions last longer between appointments, but also make sure that there's no damage to your natural lash.
DON’T PICK OR PULL
This single act can cause the most damage and can result in poor growth of your natural lash. If your lash extensions are causing discomfort, let your lash artist know immediately! This could be an allergic reaction or improper application of your lash extensions. Lashes should never feel like they are poking you!
Oils break the glue bond from your eyelash extension to your natural lash. If the glue bond is weak, you'll lose lashes! With this in mind, choose oil free facial cleansers and lotions. Gel, cream, and pencil eyeliners are a big no no.
It's also good to avoid touching your lashes since we naturally produce oils in our body. Some people have more oily skin then others so it's crucial to follow aftercare cleansing routine to keep the adhesive strong!
WASH EVERY SINGLE DAY
YOU NEED TO WASH YOUR LASHES.
Why is it important to wash your lashes? Natural oils, debris, old skin, all of these will get trapped in your lash line and affect your retention. This will also make your lashes suffocate and fall out. If you do neglect cleaning your lashes, it can very likely lead to some worse outcomes (hint: Google "lash mites or blepharitis").
HOW DO YOU WASH? An extension safe foam cleanser and a fluffy soft eyeshadow brush will be your best friend. Use circular motions above and below your lash line, paying special attention to the very ROOT of your eyelash, and rinse very well. Pat them dry with a soft paper towel or tissue (never cotton balls or pads) and then brush when dry. Another great way to dry them is to use a blow dryer on cool, keeping at arm's length away, you will notice how fluffy the lashes become after being blowdried or you can purchase a mini fan off eBay for a few dollars it's worth the investment!
You can wash 2x a day your lashes will love you, it will not hurt your lashes or cause them to fall out but the exact opposite!
SWEAT AND HUMIDITY
Wait 24 hours before going to the gym! Salt in our sweat breaks down the adhesive just like oils do. If your daily HIIT makes sweat drip down your face or if you're planning on playing in the ocean, rinse those lashes off right after! Humidity on the other hand is harder to control and it is definitely not your lashes friend. No saunas or steam rooms, avoid crying the salt from your tears with stiffen up the glue and cause your lashes to pop off "cries".
By combing your lashes daily, you not only ensure that your lashes look their best, but it stimulates new lashes growth. Can you comb too much? Yes, you can brush them 1-3 times a day.
SETTING SPRAYS AND HAIRSPRAYS
Setting sprays are a huge offender they are designed to seal your makeup together. It will close your fans and break down your adhesive. If you use a setting spray, cover your lashes with your hands and take the same care with hairsprays.
Never use mascara, If you feel like you need to swipe just a little bit to get you to your next fill, you are waiting too long in between your fills. Mascara is all oil, Even applying it for one day will forever close your fans up and begin breaking down the glue. Would you quickly dip your perfectly painted nail in acetone. NO WAY!
Try not to sleep on your face. This can make your lashes fall out! So let's keep the lashes on eyes, not your pillow. Even side sleepers can make those beautiful outer lashes fall off sooner than later. Get a satin pillowcase or a lash safe sleep mask this purchase is so worth it.
Don't get too close to anything with a lot of heat (lighting cigarettes, campfires, ovens, and even in rare cases, hair dryers that are going full blast). Volume lashes are especially susceptible to melting since they are much thinner. Once your lashes are exposed to this kind of heat, they fizzle and melt. You will have to get a removal and new set.
BUT WHAT ABOUT...
Eyelash curlers? These can permanently kink the extensions and break your natural lash where the adhesive is applied.
Strip lashes? stretchy DUO glue will yank those beautiful lashes off and you will come to your next appointment with leftover gooey gunky glue in the roots of your lashes I will remove the entire set.
Spray tans? Wait at least 24 hours before and after lash application. If you spray tan the day of your lash appointment, the eyepads will pull that tan right off!
